Information Technology (IT) Specialist

Mapp Biopharmaceutical, Inc. is a small biopharmaceutical company focused on addressing unmet medical needs through the development of life-saving monoclonal antibody treatment options to combat a variety of neglected and tropical infectious diseases. The IT Specialist will coordinate between Mapp's primary external IT vendor regarding infrastructure, development and security and Mapp employees located in San Diego and virtually across North America. The IT Specialist will also provide in-house IT support to assist employees and executive management with day-to-day operations.

Basic Qualifications:

  • AA Degree or equivalent required, preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science or a related field
  • 3+ years' experience in computer network and systems maintenance
  • 2+ years' experience on current network operating systems and cloud servers
  • 2+ years' experience working through Microsoft Office and Adobe troubleshooting
  • Strong sense of discretion and confidentiality and is service orientated
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills
  • Extremely organized and detailed in work performance
  • Knowledge of IT principles and an ability to communicate technical concepts effectively to a varied audience
  • Ability to meet deadlines and manage stress effectively in high-pressure situations
  • Knowledge of circuit boards, processors, chips, electronic equipment, and computer hardware and software, including applications and programming
  • Excellent active listening skills giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate
  • Possesses critical thinking skills using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems
  • Possesses complex problem-solving skills identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industry certifications and memberships a plus
  • Experience in providing IT services to remote users, and providing assistance at a distance
  • Knowledge of telecommunications systems


  • Works with primary IT vendor to assess infrastructure on a regular basis to ensure it continues to meet Mapp's needs
  • Keeps the executive team up to date on the latest networking technologies that could help the company to succeed
  • Must be equally comfortable with both PC and Mac platforms and interfaces
  • Offers suggestions for possible upgrades and changes within the IT system
  • Develops new strategies and IT procedures to increase efficiency, enhance workflow and data security
  • Orders computers and ensures new hires receive their computer by first day of employment and assists with on-boarding new employees with their IT infrastructure
  • Installs, test and configures new workstations, peripheral equipment and software, ensuring proper installation of cables, operating systems, or appropriate software and printer connections
  • Maintains consistency and organization of Mapp's work computers
  • Performs timely consistent workstation hardware and software upgrades as required
  • Training employees on hardware and software and its use as needed
  • Assisting with setup of employee's personal devices for email/server access
  • Maintain inventory of all equipment, software and software licenses
  • Strong understanding of MS Office, supporting mobile devices
  • Responds to support requests as needed and answers user inquiries and provides support regarding problems with computer software or hardware operation including printing, installation, MS Office, Outlook/email, and operating systems, etc. and troubleshoots issues in person, remotely and via phone when needed
  • Oversees the daily performance of computer systems
  • Monitors computer system performance to ensure proper operation
